China, Ireland pledge closer partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Irish President Michael Higgins on December 9th, 2014, with both pledging to boost the partnership between the two countries. As China is implementing a strategy of innovation-driven development and speeding up urbanization and agricultural modernization, President Xi encouraged the two nations to boost cooperation in these sectors. The Chinese President also highlighted Ireland’s advantages in information technology, medicine, life science, and agriculture and husbandry. President Higgins expressed his hopes for increased cooperation with China in the technology, education, and culture sectors as well as in people-to-people exchanges.
