Chinese students going abroad at earlier ages

The China Study Abroad Development Report (2014) was released by the Center for China and Globalizationon Dec. 18, 2014. The report confirmed that China is the United States’ largest source of international students with 274,439 Chinese students studying in the U.S. in the 2013-2014 academic year, an increase of 16.5% versusthe prior year and accounting for 31% of the foreign students in the USA. As for level of study, the statistics revealed a continuing shift toward undergraduate study, as students pursuing Bachelor’s degrees now account for 40% of Chinese students in the United States vs. 42% in 2012-2013, while those studying in graduate programs decreased to 42% vs. 44% the prior year. Further, the number of high school students studying abroad is rising rapidly, with Canada being the most popular destination for this demographic (31% share), followed by the USA, Australia and the UK.
