Demand for tertiary-level international programs and international universities expected to rise

The number of Thai students enrolled in local international universities is expected to increase sharply in the next five years, as students look to equip themselves with the skills needed to compete in the regional workforce.

According to Gilles Mahe, CEO of academic organisation Laureate Thailand, a survey conducted by his company found 60% of tertiary-level students in Thailand want to study in international program. However only 3% are enrolled in such courses. University World News

KIM’S NOTE Thailand is not a main market for recruiting students, with many institutions ignoring it or focusing only on Bangkok. As an international source market, Thailand is still comparatively small, representing about 28,000 international students per year compared with Vietnam’s 125,000. With Malaysia leveling off, Indonesia fraught with risk and Vietnam rapidly maturing, institutions will start paying more attention to this beautiful country, especially as new policies and local conditions develop.
