“ENROLLMENT CRISIS” LOOMS FOR CHINESE UNIVERSITIES

China Education News

9.33 million students in China took the National College Entrance Examination this year, which was 1 million fewer than the overall number in 2010. A number of factors, including a declining birth rate, difficulties in obtaining quality education, and easier access to overseas universities, have combined to reduce the student pool of Chinese universities.
Many senior high schools are setting up their own institutions to provide consulting services and training programs. According to the Education Department of Henan, more than 40 high schools in the province are awaiting approval for their international cooperation programs, while over 20 have opened classes to prepare their students for studies abroad.
