Law graduates facing bleak job prospects

China Education News

Unfortunately for today’s law students, the rising popularity of law degrees is not correlated with rising demand for lawyers in the job market. In 1997 only three universities in China offered a law degree, but that number has jumped to 630 today, according to eol.cn, a major Chinese education portal. In a report released last year on college graduates, law majors were included in a list of those with high risk of unemployment and low salary prospects. Aside from the increasing number of students pursing degrees in law, the gap between legal theories and actual practice are also making it difficult for new grads entering the job market.
