TIMES NOMINATES HAN HAN FOR “WORLD’S MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN 2010”

China Education News

On April 3, Time magazine released the candidates for its annual “World’s Most Influential People in 2010” list. The young Chinese writer Han Han was on the list as well as Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Lady Gaga and so on. Chinese writer Han Han, 27, appeared on the list for his novel based on his experience as a high school dropout in Shanghai. It became a bestseller in China and sparked a debate about the quality of the country’s rigid education system. There are also some people who questioned his nomination. They believe Han’s influence does not extend beyond China’s border and cannot have an effect on trends in global art and entertainment. Although his supporters and detractors are engaged in a heated discussion, Han Han himself has said very little about his nomination.
