Grok Schools Community Counselor Connect – Malaysia November 2022

After the success of the inaugural Grok Schools Community Counselor Connect in March 2022, Grok Schools Community ran its second Counselor Connect in Kuala Lumpur on November 10th, 2022. This event was attended by university representatives from all major overseas study destinations and counselors from eight local and international schools in the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor region, including a school from Kampar, Perak.

As part of the session, Aeti Abdullah, the representative from the University of Rochester, gave an thematic presentation on the theme: ‘The Right-Fit Approach to University Admissions’, which dived deep into the different factors that students should consider when researching universities, including potential career opportunities and academic accreditation.

This was followed by a panel Q&A session, represented by Joshua Johnson (Methodist College Kuala Lumpur), Chau Mai (Queen’s University, Canada) and Vivian Chow (University of Dundee, UK). The panelists shared their experiences with regards to supporting students (and parents) in choosing the best-fit university for themselves.

Attendees then had the opportunity to participate in various roundtable discussions and networked with one another, where they exchanged ideas and expertise on various topics, such as career support and scholarships & financial aid.

Many thanks to the schools and colleges that participated in the event:

  • Charterhouse International School
  • EducationUSA

“We are extremely grateful that Grok Schools allowed us to be connected with other counselors from like minded tertiary institutions. We have been engaging with Universities and building bridges for our students to grasp opportunities to go beyond the shores of Malaysia knowing all things are possible. Thank you Grok Schools and we hope to attend future events such as this!” (Emeric Hing, Head of Career & Character Education, Westlake International School, Kampar)
