Accelerated growth in Chinese students studying abroad
The latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China reported that 460,000 Chinese students studied abroad in 2014. This represented an increase of 12% year-over-year, which was triple the 4% annual growth witnessed in 2013. As for returnees, overseas students returning to China numbered 365,000 in 2014, up 3% from 2013. The figure below shows the number of Chinese students going abroad and returning since 2005.
Editor’s Note: The study abroad market in China has been growing steadily in recent years with a faster growth rate of 11.9%, compared to 3.58% in 2013. Over the past decade (2005-2014), the number of Chinese students studying abroad has increased by 288%, while the number of returnees to China has increased by 943%.
