Beijing holds meeting for solutions to the water crisis

This month, Beijing hosted an international meeting of leading experts, practitioners, policymakers, and investors to promote natural solutions to the water crisis facing an urbanizing world. Experts believe the challenge is particularly severe in China, where official statistics indicate that one in seven people lacks access to drinking water that meets national standards.

Editor’s note: Water quality is a long standing hot issue in China and there has been recent controversy about the standards of bottled water, since Nongfushanquan, a popular bottled water brand, was reported using a standard for their bottled water that is even lower than national tap water. The media also reported that there are different criteria used in different provinces among various bottled water brands in the market. The public calls for stricter regulation of the drinking water industry, setting up a unified standard of bottled water in China.
