Canada “first choice” for 80% of its foreign students

Global Education News

A survey of more than 1,500 college and university international students in Canada shows that 80% of students had only applied to Canadian institutions for study, a jump from 45% last year and around 50-60% every year since 1999. The findings were published in the Canadian Bureau for International Education’s (CBIE) second annual analysis on the state of the sector in Canada, A World of Learning: Canada’s Performance and Potential in International Education, published on Nov19. Opportunities for permanent residency and post-study work were shown to be the most attractive aspects of Canada as a study destination, as 68% of respondents said that opportunities for full-time work in Canada following graduation were either very important or essential in their decision to study in Canada. Nearly half (46%) of survey respondents intend to stay in Canada, up from 21% in 2012.
