Chinese city halts summer camps after Asiana crash

China Education News

Local education officials in China suspended all the summer camps by schools in the home city of the two teenage girls who died in the Asiana flight that crashed at San Francisco International Airport. The local government also vowed tighter regulation of the new and fast-growing market for summer camp trips and other overseas study tours. Many people criticize the cancellation as being an over-reaction, as education industry insiders believe that the desire of students toward participating in these types of programs is unlikely to be affected much by the plane crash. Rather than cancelation of all the study trips, the public calls for stricter regulation of the study abroad market to conduct a healthy development of the summer camp industry.
