Chinese parents sending children to study abroad at younger ages

China Education News

2014 witnessed a growing number of young Chinese headed to the US to study, with growth expected to continue in 2015 even as competition for admissions gets increasing fierce. According to a deputy director of an overseas study consultancy in China, there are two main reasons why Chinese students going to the U.S. will continue being sent at younger ages. First, some parents believe that earlier exposure to the American education system will increase their child’s chances of being admitted to a prestigious U.S. university and second, some parents feel that China’s test-oriented education, especially in high school, is hurting their child’s personal development.
