FICCI High Education Summit 2014

India Education News

The annual Higher Education Summit organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) was held in Delhi earlier this month. The UK was the ‘Country Partner’ for the event this year. The Rt. Hon. Greg Clarke, Minister of State for Universities, Science and Cities, led a delegation of representatives from the UK’s Higher Education and Further Education sectors.
India and the UK announced two joint programs during this Summit:
1. The Newton-Bhabha Fund to promote multi-disciplinary cooperation: India and the UK agreed to set up a 50 million pound fund which will be utilized by both countries for multi-disciplinary cooperation in the fields of science, research and innovation.
2. Generation UK-India: Generation UK-India is a program that aims to build collaboration, engagement and trust between the UK and India. Over the next 5 years the British Council will work with partners to support up to 25,000 young people and professionals from the UK to gain study and work experience in India.
The theme for this year’s summit was “Higher Education Vision 2030: Making it Happen”. Recall that FICCI had released their Higher Education Vision 2030 report at last year’s session. A copy can be downloaded from the EY site.
