China Education News

The number of Chinese students returning from overseas is set to exceed those going abroad within the next five years, a survey released on Nov.4 shows. The report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on Chinese talent returning home said that the number coming back has continued to increase since 2004, and reached 272,900 in 2012, with an increase of 46.56% compared with that in 2011. By 2018, the balance is likely to tilt in favor of the returnees.

Editor’s note: According to the report, the most popular cities where those returning chose to stay were Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The internationalism in large cities, China’s favorable policies for returnees, and reunion with family are factors that attract overseas students to return. Many international students from China find it hard to immerse themselves into the mainstream culture in a foreign country after graduation, thus they will choose to return after gaining several years of overseas working experience which help them find a job in China.
