Supreme Courtputs conditions on the functioning of 41 Deemed Universities
The Supreme Court put conditions on the functioning of 41 Deemed Universities, questioning the University Grants Commission’s rush to allow them to start operations.
“The universities cannot be allowed to operate without physical verification of their infrastructure and teaching faculty strength,” the apex court said.
These 41 Deemed Universities were found wanting in the above criteria in 2009 but the UGC appeared to be in a hurry to allow the majority of them to start operations. The Supreme Court took umbrage to the UGC’s hurry and said that none of the Deemed University should be allowed to function without fresh physical verification of their infrastructure and faculty strength.
