QS World University Rankings: US, UK, and Australia show advantages in higher education

London has the highest number of top-rated universities, according to the QS World University Rankings released on Sept.16, 2014. Britain has four of the world’s top six universities, and five of the world’s top 100 universities, including Imperial College London, University College London (UCL), King’s College London, London School of Economics and Queen Mary University of London with ranking of second, fifth, 16th, 71st and 98th respectively.
Australia’s top universities have moved up the world rankings with Australian National University based in Canberra coming in at 25th in the world. The University of Melbourne was the next Australian institution at 33rd place and the University of Sydney was ranked 37th. Australia’s G8 universities were all in the top 100, compared to the seven in 2013.
The US has 28 universities in the top 100, with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the first position leading the rankings.
