When did you join Grok?

August 2022

Describe yourself in three words.

Personable, Honest, Enthusiastic

What were you doing before working at Grok?

Before Grok, I was the International Team Lead for FindAUniversity. I helped universities with their student recruitment marketing enabling them to attract students from all over the world.

What was your first job in education? My first role in education was back in 2014. I advised students on their options after finishing university, such as graduate schemes and graduate jobs. I was lucky enough to travel around the UK visiting careers services and speaking with students.

What does international education mean for you?

International education for me is all about opportunities. Not only the opportunities to study anywhere in the world and to study a subject you are passionate about but the foundation it creates for your next steps.

I was fortunate enough to always have university in my plans and I had a fantastic time studying in the UK. However, it wasn’t until I started working with universities outside of the UK that I realised the breadth of opportunities that were available. In that same vein I want to make sure students outside of the UK know about all the great opportunities to study here.

What is something interesting you have learned while working at Grok?

The importance of localised knowledge. I am constantly learning from our management team, based all over the world, about the intricacies in the market that are invaluable to the services we offer.

What is one of the most satisfying outcomes you’ve helped a client to achieve?

The most satisfying things in my career have always been about making a difference. One of the most memorable for me was working with Okinawa Institute of Technology as they were the first partner I had the pleasure of working with in Japan. They were looking to recruit more students globally but specifically from the UK. The campaign was a real success and they started working with us not only for marketing support, but also travelling to the UK to attend our in-person fairs. I worked with them for many years and was delighted in our second year when a student they recruited through our efforts was included in their marketing materials!

What is your favourite movie/book?

The Lord of the Rings

What is your dream travel destination? Why?

I have been lucky enough to travel quite a lot over the last few years, but I would love to spend more time across Asia. China and Japan are also high on my bucket list.

What is your favourite food to eat with friends?

I am a fan of most food, but sushi is always high on the list when eating out.

What is a something you’ve learned from somebody inspirational?

Always being genuine is a character trait I have taken from my Dad. Inside or outside of work I have always seen this in him and as a result it is something I have tried to emulate and look for in others.

What was your favourite subject at high school or university?

I studied Economics and International Business at university, and economics was probably my favourite subject at school. With an honourable mention to my Philosophy lessons.
