When did you join Grok?
October 2024
Describe yourself in three words:
Driven. Grounded. Kind
What were you doing before working at Grok?
I worked for 17 years at the University of Wollongong where I predominantly led the Learning Abroad strategy and operations. I eventually became UOW’s Executive Director (Global) leading teams including Learning Abroad, TNE, International Partnerships and Global Sport Programs. I have also worked at both Australian Catholic University and the University of the Sunshine Coast supporting their strategic partnerships and broader international recruitment efforts.
What was your first job in education?
A front-counter casual worker as a Study Abroad Assistant at UOW.
What does international education mean for you?
An eye-opening experience that paves the way for future learners. I truly believe that the work we do changes lives – mine included! Travelling and moving to Australia in my early 20s from the USA opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities and perspectives. And, I’ve never looked back!
What is something interesting you have learned while working at Grok?
The nuanced differences across all of the various geographic employment labour laws.
What is one of the most satisfying outcomes you’ve helped a client to achieve?
Successfully transitioning their team of in-country staff across to Grok.
What is your favourite book?
Hmmm I can’t say I have a favourite. I usually have 4-5 going at any point in time though!
What is your dream travel destination? Why?
I would love to travel to Africa and see giraffes, elephants, zebras, etc. in the wild. It has always been a dream of mine.
What is your favourite food to eat with friends?
Chips and salsa.
What is something you’ve learned from somebody inspirational?
That you’re never too old to play music. My father and great-grandmother instilled in me a love and talent for playing music (violin for me). They taught me that no matter what your age – 8 or 98 – you can still play music.
What was your favourite subject at high school or university?
Human physiology. I am fascinated with the way the body works and all things science. Life is a beautiful miracle to me!
